If everything is normal, the mother-chin is healthy and has enough milk and
not more than three babies then she can raise them up alone.
Normally she is supported by the chin-father, which also takes care of the babies (e.g.
cleaning them, warming them up, etc.)
When the baby-chins are about two weeks old they start eating pellets and hay. So there sensitive
stomach has the chance to get used to the normal food. They start with a little hay and a few days later they
are eating pellets.
Six weeks after birth the young ones would not need milk from mommy anymore. This would
be the time you could separate the babies from their parents.
But a good breeder will last the babies with their mommy for two or three more weeks
to strength their resistance.
After separating the babies from their mommy you have to be very careful with the quantity
of food, because young chinchillas eat all and everything. And if it is too much they can get diarrhoe.
