Until now pedigrees are not very common for chinchillas. But if you want to start a hobby farm you should start to build up pedigrees of your chins. You can give this pedigree the people, who buy your chinchillas so that they can continue with it. So there is a complete proof about the chin. So there can be avoided to make inbreeding because of giving together brothers and sisters. With guinea pigs its absolutely common to make pedigrees. Here you can proof the derivation up to 8-10 generations. It would be very good, if this would be started at the chinchilla breeding, too.
